Our client in Solon, OH, is a leading designer and manufacturer of surgical fluid management systems. They are looking for a Software Engineer for a 24-month contract position.


Job Description

Provide software design engineering skills to existing products, development of new products, creating and testing prototypes, validating test equipment, verifying product meets requirements, and developing and documenting test protocols and reports. The ideal candidate will be experienced in the design of software for electromechanical medical devices, have a good mechanical and electrical aptitude and a hands-on mentality to prototyping and testing.


Essential Functions

Candidates should be capable of:

  • Participating in the software design and development lifecycle including design, implementation, verification, and validation
  • Developing products to industry and international standards (ISO, IEC, IEEE)
  • Troubleshooting system functionality


  • Able to understand and utilize object-oriented C++ libraries which utilize generic programming concepts (e.g. templates, interfaces)
  • Capable of writing well-structured, well-documented (i.e. code comments, design documentation, and test documentation), and easily-maintainable software suitable to control a medical device
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of digital and analog systems
  • Strong systems aptitude with an interest in hands-on application of engineering principles
  • Use of multi-meters, oscilloscopes, debuggers, logic analyzers
  • Data analysis skills
  • Highly self-motivated
  • An active participant in a team / collaborative environment

Preferred Work Experience

  • Experience working with embedded platforms (e.g. microcontrollers, single-board computers)
  • Experience developing touch screen graphical user interfaces
  • Experience working with I2C, Wi-Fi, USB, Ethernet, and/or Bluetooth communication protocols
  • Experience with control algorithms (e.g. motor control)
  • 5 years of experience in medical device product development
  • 4-year degree in Computer Science or equivalent preferred
  • Familiarity with ISO13485 and/or ISO 9001 quality system/GMP regulations
  • Familiarity with IEC 62304 and IEC 60601-1 for the design of medical products
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, oral, and written communications skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
