JOB DESCRIPTION:   To build or repair all types, sizes, and shapes of jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Assemble and try out complex tools and dies on manual, transfer and progressive press dies. To support the Production Department and Quality Department in producing quality expectations. To support a team structure and to work in a team environment with all company departments.



  • Demonstrate knowledge of machine use and maintenance.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted.
  • Plans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
  • Heat treat parts as required.
  • Determines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gaging tools, performing required inspection before, during and after machining.
  • Performs had operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Uses hand tools of the trade.
  • Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Helps set up and test dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same.
  • Identify problems, detect causes, plan solutions, and repair dies according to customer engineering and production specifications.
  • Show initiative in collaborating with other departments during all stages of the die's design, production and development.
  • Accurately interpreting die design drawings
  • Be consistent in good time management when working on projects.
  • Keep busy and show an interest in taking on other projects when work is completed.
  • Ask for help when needed and offer help to others
  • Notify supervisor when repairs are needed.
  • Provide improvement ideas

  • May assist machinists and millwrights in punch press overhaul.
  • May work with product designers providing input to manufacturing capability on newly formed products.

    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

    • Must possess a professional Journeyman Tool and Die Certificate or five years:
    • Experience in metal stamping with deep draw process
    • Experience in repairing dies for transfer, progressive, and manual presses.
    • Ability to perform precision work involving small detail.


    • Possess good hand-eye coordination
    • Possess good small and large motor skills
    • Visual ability to spot defective parts.
    • Walking/standing, up to eight hours.
    • Carry or lift up to 50 pounds
    • Maintain a good working pace for an entire shift
    • Physically able for repetitive actions, such as reaching, bending and turning while performing job.
    • Must be able to work in a noisy environment using requirement personal protective equipment.
    • Vision/Hearing: Must have at least 20/20 vision or corrected to at least 20/20. Hearing within normal range.
    • Be able to tolerate heat and cold.
