Job Summary:
The Chemical Operator Development Program offers individuals with limited or no chemical industry experience the opportunity to learn, develop, progress, and promote through our comprehensive program. We utilize a phased approach with pay increases along the way as the candidate attains new skills and advances through the program, all the while enjoying competitive Lubrizol benefits and wages. This program enables the candidate to skill build and position his or herself for top salary hourly positions as a Chemical Operator upon completion of the program.

This is a Direct Hire position
Starting pay is $21/hr.

Phase 1 – Packaging Building: Material Handler

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate tow motor and drum pickers.
  • Load the conveyor with new drums and totes for packing and the palletizer with the required pallets.
  • Coordinate the transfer of filled drums and totes back to the plant for internal use.
  • Clean tops of drums; crimp drum bungs; and rubberband the drums for transfer.
  • Thief sampling of drums and /or totes.
  • Perform safety inspections of area and equipment. Properly record safety inspections.
  • Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, instruments, storage areas, walkways, and roadways utilizing various equipment to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Work with various departments (production, order handling, etc.).
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Phase 2 – Manufacturing: Packer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Inspect and operate tow motor and drum pickers.
  • Assist Chemical Operators with various in-unit activities.
  • Understand and comply with all procedures associated with assigned tasks, including use of proper PPE.
  • Fill drums at remote packing stations throughout the facility.
  • Perform safety inspections of area and equipment. Properly record safety inspections.
  • Participate in area 5S activities and initiatives.
  • Participate in Safety Meetings.
  • Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, instruments, storage areas, walkways, and roadways utilizing various equipment to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Work with various departments (production, order handling, etc.).
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Phase 3 – Manufacturing: Operator In Training

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Able to perform all duties and responsibilities of Manufacturing Packer (as pre-requisite).
  • Safely operate and work with industrial equipment using the proper PPE and safety procedures.
  • Process chemical products using batch sheet instructions.
  • Communicate and make material transfers.
  • Load and unload material containers (tank cars/trucks, drums, and totes).
  • Clean/prepare equipment for maintenance as required.
  • Read various control panels and field instruments.
  • Participate in plant emergency response organization with the requirement of successfully completing the 36 Hour Fire Course test and state test.
  • Track/record process information and production data.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, processes, etc.
  • Become familiar with Safe Work Program process for equipment preparation to allow maintenance under a work permit issued to the maintenance work crew.
  • General housekeeping.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited school.
  • Ability to wear SCBA\Respirator.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal/written).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
  • Candidates must be able to follow Lubrizol department procedures and practices.
  • Ability to safely drive and operate various delivery vehicles, including fork lifts.
  • Ability to hear alarms and follow alarm procedures.
  • Basic math and reading/comprehension skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to be self-motivated without immediate supervision.
  • Flexibility with schedule and work duties.
  • Must be a team player who will also assist other department team members as needed.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task while delivering focused results.
  • Ability to pay attention to accuracy and detail is critical.
  • Follow-up skills and the ability of quick thinking in a dynamic environment are crucial to success.

Considered a Plus:
  • Previous tow motor experience.
  • Additional computer skills.
  • Working SAP knowledge and/or experience with control systems.
  • Understanding of hazardous materials and safety procedures (MSDS, JSA’s, etc.)
