Job Description
Our client, a manufacturer of pneumatic tools, in Willoughby OH, is seeking a motivated individual for their Head CNC Machinist position!
The ideal candidate will also be able to make tooling and custom fixtures and parts.
1st Shift - Direct Hire
$28-$40/hr., depending upon skills
Job Summary:
Supervise the Turning Department, including set up and operation of conventional, special purpose and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the duties below.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to define problems, collect data and draw valid conclusions. The individual must have the ability to understand and interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with program problems. The individual must be able to communicate effectively with others.
Education and Experience High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or 5-10 years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Job Summary:
Supervise the Turning Department, including set up and operation of conventional, special purpose and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the duties below.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the employees in the turning department, including scheduling jobs to ensure ease of transition between jobs and minimal down time of employees and machines
- Study blueprints and drawings, specifications or sample pieces to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
- Use calipers, micrometers and other inspection equipment. Read and understand schematic and dimensional drawings.
- Assist in inspection department as required. Assist with maintaining inspection equipment as needed.
- Assist with verifying conformance of finished work throughout all machining departments to specifications. Directs workers in adjusting machines and equipment to repair products that fail to meet standards.
- Compare computer printout with original program to insure accuracy of machine instructions.
- Select and align cutting tools, fixtures, accessories and materials for set up. Be able to determine substitute tooling.
- Make tooling and fixtures for milling all departments.
- Make prototype parts as required. Give feedback to engineering staff about problems or concerns regarding prototype production.
- Engineer and make gauging and custom parts for special tools/ applications. Make fixtures for all machining as required.
- Use manual lathes and excello.
- Write programs. Calculate and set controls, and regulate machining factors such as speed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, and sequence of operations.
- Strive to reduce scrap and waste in all machining departments.
- Edit programs. Enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control. Revise programs to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
- Verify conformance of finished work throughout turning department to specifications.
- Operate all machines in turning department safely and correctly.
- Measure, mark and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent milling or machining.
- Strive to improve set up and cycle times throughout turning department. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department or work crew.
- Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve milling, grinding, machining or assembly problems.
- Update individual part/job file at end of each job.
- Complete daily work sheet when running production and turn in at end of each workday.
- Maintain and do machine repairs, including regular preventive maintenance. Oversee routine maintenance of machines by subordinates.
- Perform major machine repairs as needed.
- Enforces safety regulations. Insure that lock-out, tag-out procedures are followed when machines are down for maintenance.
- Building maintenance as required.
- Support positive work environment.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems
- Review job description and inform supervisor of any necessary corrections or revisions.
- Perform self-performance evaluations and evaluations of subordinate workers as required.
- Observe all required safety rules and report any violations or unsafe practices or situations to supervisor or safety officer immediately.
