Kiln Operator and Inspector
Job Description
$21.75/hr.
Available Shifts:
12-hr rotating days, 7a-7p
12-hr rotating nights, 7p-7a
1st Shift 7a-3:30p, M-F
2nd Shift 3p-11p, M-F
** Union shop, there is a raise upon permanent hire-in **
What You'll Do:
Kiln Operations Support
- Load and unload tunnel kiln cars with care to avoid kiln wrecks
- Keep kiln cars clean and in good condition; re-deck as needed
- Assist during power outages or kiln incidents; grease wheels regularly
Product Inspection & Quality Control
- Use a variety of precision tools (calipers, plug gauges, micrometers, etc.) to inspect ware.
- Identify and properly disposition defective items (reclaim, discard, or review)
- Understand and interpret inspection documents and digital prints.
- Clean, label, and prepare over 2,500 different products for shipment
- Use specialized packing materials and techniques (foam inserts, shrink wrap, etc.)
- Wrap, band, and label products for safe transport
- Re-inspect and repack items as needed; assist with partial order combinations.
- Operate forklifts, pneumatic barrel movers, and strongarms
- Perform basic maintenance on equipment like foamers and stitchers.
- Manage propane tank and battery changes for tow motors.
- Order and manager packing materials like cardboard and shipping supplies.
- Accurately enter shipping and inspection data into computer systems
- Coordinate with trucking companies and prepare shipment paperwork
- Support other departments and assist shippers when needed.
Additional Duties
- Perform dye checks
- Use Bridgeport machine to smooth bricks as needed
- Experience with quality control tools and inspection gauges preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
- Comfortable with physical work - may move up to 17,000 lbs. in one shift (team and equipment assisted)
- Basic computer and documentation skills
- Forklift/tow motor experience a plus
- Team player with a problem-solving mindset

I also lead, mentor, coach and train the recruiting team to ensure that open positions receive adequate coverage to meet our clients' needs.

I graduated from The University of Akron in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in mass communication with a concentration on radio and TV. Prior to joining Vector Technical Inc., I spent time working as a radio personality/intern for Q104’s morning show, Fee’s Kompany in the Morning. From there, I spent a season working as an in-arena host for the Lake Erie Monsters (Cleveland Hockey Team). In 2013, I had the opportunity to work for WHNT News 19 in Huntsville, Alabama (Fox 8 Sister Station) as an interactive content reporter/producer.
Outside the office, I enjoy cooking, traveling, running, photography, crafting, concerts, and spending time with my family and friends.
