Job Description

Vector's partner located in Willoughby, OH, is a metals contract manufacturer for aerospace, power generation, land, marine and medical industries in need of a CNC Maintenance Technician.

Direct Hire
1st Shift (with occasional weekend and off-shift coverage)
$30-$40/hr., depending upon skills and experience.

Position Summary
The CNC Maintenance Technician is a highly experienced, seasoned technician responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing CNC machinery while supporting facility and building maintenance activities. This role ensures safe, efficient, and uninterrupted production operations through preventive maintenance, advanced diagnostics, system integration work, and rapid response to machine downtime. The technician also collaborates with internal teams and external partners to support equipment reliability, upgrades, and continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities
CNC Preventive Maintenance (PM)
  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on CNC mills, lathes, grinders, 5?axis machines, and vertical mills.
  • Maintain and update PM checklists, service logs, and maintenance records.
  • Inspect and service lubrication systems, way covers, coolant systems, filters, belts, spindles, ball screws, and other mechanical components.
  • Monitor machine condition and identify early signs of wear or failure to prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Ensure machines meet safety standards and operational readiness.

Troubleshooting, Diagnostics & Machine Downtime Response
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on CNC equipment.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of CNC control systems, including system integration and broader control system diagnostics.
  • Troubleshoot servo drives, motors, encoders, sensors, switches, alarms, and wiring.
  • Respond quickly to down machines to restore production with minimal interruption.
  • Identify root causes of recurring failures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform alignment checks and basic accuracy verification.

Coordination with OEMs, Vendors & Internal Teams
  • Coordinate OEM service visits, order parts, track repair timelines, and support major repairs or rebuilds.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and acceptance of new CNC equipment.
  • Work with controls and automation vendors to troubleshoot electrical/control issues and implement upgrades.
  • Collaborate with vendors, machine builders, engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve equipment issues efficiently.

Facilities / Building Maintenance Support
  • Perform general building and facility maintenance including lighting, basic plumbing, air lines, minor HVAC support, and shop infrastructure upkeep.
  • Perform electrical work including 240V and 480V systems as needed.
  • Maintain compressors, air dryers, coolant systems, and shop support equipment.
  • Support safe operation of cranes, hoists, and material handling systems through inspections and minor repairs.
  • Maintain clean, organized maintenance areas and proper storage of spare parts.

Safety, Documentation & Continuous Improvement
  • Follow all safety policies including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for work orders, repairs, PM activities, and parts usage.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to uptime, PM effectiveness, and equipment reliability.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of hands?on CNC machinery maintenance and repair experience.
  • Highly experienced, seasoned technician with strong proficiency in both electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Expert knowledge of CNC controls, including diagnostics and system integration (Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Mazak, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and ladder logic.
  • Experience with 5?axis machines, vertical mills, and high?precision CNC equipment.
  • Strong problem?solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ability to work independently with strong time?management and prioritization skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in high?precision manufacturing environments (aerospace, automotive, medical devices).
  • Technical certifications in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or related fields.
