Job Description
Vector's partner is in need of a Precision OD/ID Grinder who would be responsible for setting up and operating precision grinding equipment to manufacture aerospace components with extremely tight dimensional and geometric tolerances. This position requires strong knowledge of grinding principles, blueprint interpretation, GD&T, and precision inspection techniques while maintaining compliance with AS9100 quality standards.
Salary is based on experience.
10-hour shifts available on any shift with lots of OT
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate CNC and/or manual OD and ID grinding machines.
- Grind precision aerospace components to blueprint specifications.
- Hold dimensional tolerances to ±0.0001 inch or better where required.
- Maintain geometric tolerances including roundness, concentricity, cylindricity, runout, and perpendicularity.
- Achieve specified surface finishes as required by engineering drawings.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, process sheets, and GD&T.
- Select, mount, balance, and dress grinding wheels.
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments.
- Utilize micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, air gauges, height gauges, optical comparators, and CMM reports as required.
- Monitor wheel wear and adjust offsets to maintain process capability.
- Troubleshoot grinding conditions including chatter, burn, taper, size variation, and surface finish issues.
- Maintain compliance with AS9100, customer specifications, and company quality procedures.
- Document inspection results and maintain accurate production records.
Required
- 3+ years of precision OD and/or ID grinding experience in an aerospace, medical, or high-precision manufacturing environment.
- Experience holding tolerances of ±0.0002 inch or tighter; ±0.0001 inch preferred.
- Working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Experience with CNC grinding controls is preferred.
- Proficient in the use of precision inspection equipment.
- Strong understanding of wheel selection, dressing techniques, feeds, speeds, and coolant application.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing zero-defect components.
Preferred
- AS9100 or NADCAP manufacturing environment.
- Experience grinding hardened tool steels, stainless steels, titanium, Inconel, and other aerospace alloys.
- Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Experience with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
