Job Description

Vector's partner is seeking a CNC Programmer to support aerospace machining operations through a combination of hands-on shop-floor support and computer-based programming and planning. This position is approximately 50% office/desk work and 50% time on the manufacturing floor, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both CNC programming and being directly involved with production.
The CNC Programmer will develop and improve CNC programs, assist with tooling and fixture requirements, support machine setups, and work closely with machinists, engineering, and quality to ensure parts are produced accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with customer and aerospace requirements.

Pay is dependent upon experience
1st Shift, can have a start time of 6:00, 6:30 or 7:00am

Key Responsibilities
Programming & Engineering Support - Approximately 50% Desk

  • Develop, modify, prove out, and optimize CNC programs for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining.
  • Utilize Mastercam/CAM Works, and 3D CAD modeling software to create and verify machining processes.
  • Review blueprints, CAD models, specifications, and GD&T requirements to determine appropriate machining methods.
  • Develop routing and process plans including machining operations, tooling, work holding, and setup requirements.
  • Assist with the development and improvement of fixtures, cutting tools, and machining strategies.
  • Maintain accurate CNC programs, tooling information, setup documentation, and related manufacturing records.
  • Work with senior programmers and engineering to resolve programming or manufacturability concerns.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, quality, tool life, and overall machining efficiency.
Production Floor Support - Approximately 50% Floor
  • Work directly with machinists during machine setups, first-piece inspections, and production runs.
  • Assist in troubleshooting programming, tooling, fixture, and machining issues as they arise.
  • Observe machining processes and make recommendations for improved efficiency, consistency, and quality.
  • Help verify that programs and setups perform as intended before and during production.
  • Communicate directly with machinists, engineering, and quality regarding part requirements and production challenges.
  • Support first-article and inspection activities while ensuring work meets drawing and customer requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and help implement process improvements on the shop floor.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safe work practices and accurate, repeatable machining processes.
Quality & Compliance
  • Follow established aerospace quality and documentation requirements, including AS9100
  • Work in accordance with applicable ITAR requirements and company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and controlled programming and process documentation.
  • Ensure machining processes support required dimensional, quality, and traceability standards.
Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of CNC programming or closely related machining experience; aerospace experience is preferred.
  • Certificate or Associate degree in CNC Programming, Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Engineering degree may be considered in place of machining-specific education.
  • Equivalent hands-on machining and programming experience will also be considered.
