Job Description

Vector's partner is looking for a hands-on Quality Engineer with ISO experience to join our manufacturing team. This position plays an important role in ensuring that our products meet customer requirements and that our quality system remains effective and up to date. The ideal candidate is someone who is detail-oriented, organized, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working directly with machinists, production personnel, suppliers, and customers. 

Salary is based upon experience

Responsibilities: 

  • Perform First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with company procedures and customer requirements.
  • Create, review, and approve FAIRs, PPAPs, DSQRs, and other customer-required quality documentation.
  • Develop in-process and First Article inspection requirements for new parts and operations.
  • Perform regular shop-floor line walks to monitor quality and production.
  • Review and disposition nonconforming material through the MRB process.
  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and purchase orders to ensure requirements are understood and met.
  • Balloon drawings and prepare inspection documentation for new and existing parts.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation.
  • Able to run CMM inspections a plus
  • Communicate directly with customers regarding quality issues, documentation, concerns, and corrective actions.
  • Provide customers with certifications, shipping documentation, and other required quality records.
  • Communicate with suppliers and outside processors regarding quality concerns and corrective actions.
  • Review and approve supplier documentation and certifications.
  • Maintain and update the Approved Supplier List (ASL).
  • Conduct internal audits and assist with maintaining the company's Quality Management System.
  • Monitor quality metrics and KPIs and present information during monthly quality meetings.
  • Lead or participate in root-cause and problem-solving activities using tools such as 5 Why and Fishbone analysis.
  • Close corrective action reports (CARs) and other quality-related actions.
  • Maintain employee training records and the training matrix.
  • Monitor inspection equipment calibration status and coordinate calibration as needed.
  • Work closely with production personnel to identify and resolve quality issues.
  • Update routings, inspection documents, job requirements, and other manufacturing documentation.
  • Maintain accurate job and inventory information within the company's ERP system.
  • Create and maintain documentation and electronic folders for new part numbers.
  • Create coating rack prints and other documentation required for outside processing.
  • Support estimating by updating job requirements and quality requirements.
Qualifications:

Required:
  • Previous experience in manufacturing quality is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience with First Article Inspection (FAI/FAIR) requirements.
  • Experience with PPAP and/or other customer quality requirements.
  • Experience with nonconforming material, MRB, corrective actions, and root-cause analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software and systems.
  • Ability to work independently while also working effectively with production personnel, suppliers, and customers.
  • Must be comfortable working in a manufacturing/shop-floor environment.

Preferred

  • Aerospace manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with AS9100 and/or ISO 9001.
  • Internal auditing experience.
  • Experience with Net-Inspect.
  • Experience with DISCUS or similar drawing/ballooning software.
  • CMM and other precision inspection equipment experience.
  • Experience with CNC machining, grinding, or other precision manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably E2/ JobBoss.
